Today on the Skook or Chuck
|
I left home as the rain was
letting up and it looked very nice when I got to the river. Leaving my
rain coat in the vehicle with the moon roof open I headed out to fish.
There weren’t a lot of people so I got to go where I wanted. Then it
started to rain. It stopped then started again. Then stop and started.
Needless to say I got wet and so did the inside of my vehicle. There
was nothing happening at the first spot after trying a spinner, bobber
and jig, bobber and bait so I went to the next spot. This is where I
hooked a little silver thing (I saw it) before it came loose. It might
have been about 14 inches and it took my drifted eggs. I am not sure
what it was, maybe a trout or a whitefish. The only other fish I saw
was a dying silver.
The water level was raising while I was there but I couldn't tell until I came home and looked. The height was just over 7 foot and flow cfs was 450. Sunday, February 14, 2010 11:39:41 PM

Different (new) things for this year
|
What have I done new this year:
1. Fished for steelhead in the Skookumchuck until they closed it. Result 0.
2. Fished for steelhead at Blue Creek and Barrier Dam from the bank. Result 0.
3. Fished Spanaway Lake. Result several trout.
4. Fished for Lings at Des Moines Fishing Pier. Result 0.
5. Tied some flies. (I did tie about 20 years ago) Results caught some trout.
6. Fished American Lake. Caught a few rock bass. Caught 1 rainbow. (6-04-09)
7. Fished Clear Lake Thurston County. Results; caught 2 rainbows. (6-20-09)
8. Fished Ward Lake Thurston County.Results; caught 3 rainbows (7-3-09)
9. Went crab fishing for the first time at Dash Point Pier. Results; brought home 2 red rock crabs to eat! (7-4-09)
10. First time getting oysters from Tolmie State park. They were good to eat. (7-23-09)
11. Fished at Dash Point Pier for Pinks using a pink buzz bomb. My shoulders and arm hurt Results 0 salmon. 3 Red Rock Crab (8-6,7-09)
12. Fished from boat in sound for pinks. Results; caught 1 flounder and 1 pink. (8-15-09)
13. 9-17-09 I bought an additional catch card today so I can fish tomorrow.
Update: 1-10-10-2nd punch card has 6 more spots. I did bring one chum home because Gary hooked it and let me bring it in.

New to me vehicle
|
Last Wednesday night I bought a 1991 Ford Explorer off of craigslist. Eddie Bauer, leather seats, power everything, 4x4. It had a few minor problems. Nothing too bad. One window doesn't roll down. I am not sure but I think the AC probably doesn't work.
We test drove and I liked it. It is a 5 speed manual. I tested the 4x4 and it seemed to work. No one could figure out how to get it out of 4x4 into 2 wheel. It comes with the original owners manual. So they tried what it says. My son and I meet at Southcenters Blue C Sushi and as I am parking it is weird with the steering. It makes a bunch of noise and nearly stops itself. This only happens on tight turns. So we leave and it is fine driving it straight. Almost home and I decide to try the cigarette lighter and it pops back out. Maybe it is a fuse. It is snowing out and I smell wood smoke and think that the people must be enjoying their fireplaces when the cab fills with smoke. I roll the windows down and pull over turn it off, get out. Nothing more. No more smoke so I drive it home. Now I think it may have been stuff in the heater. There were ashes on the dashboard.
I went to pick up some wiper blades cause they were horrible after I get home and think it may be safe. The back one didn't work so I only bought the 2 front. But when I got back into the explorer and started it, it worked. So I went back in and bought the other wiper blade. I let my other son drive us to the store and he wanted to try the 4x4. We drive home and my daughter wants me to drive her to the store for a pop. I try to show her what the front end is doing and IT DOESN'T do it. It hasn't done it. I think we never got it out of 4x4.
The power mirrors only go up and over. My son think the switch is partly out. Otherwise I use it manually.
I went and had the fuel injectors cleaned, new fuel filter, oil changed, transmission fluid changed. It seems to run fine. The heater doesn't seem to get hot like my car does. I went fishing at the Skookumchuck in it. No fish. So far so good.
